Shorted indicates choose DC VIN input power to supply, VIN on L298 module do not need to connect power supply. A0, A1 channel to detect dual channel motor current value, disconnect represents select external power supply, then the power input via the VIN on the module; A0, A1 channel does not detect motor current values.
